Yes, absolutely.

Add a healthy dose of humility in there too and we're in business.

Very nice. Reminds me of the 279 Days to Overnight Success manifesto. Everyone focuses on the "overnight" part, but Chris is quick to emphasize the "279 days" part.

It does take time, hard work, patience, and a lot of content. Can I produce that much? Yes. Will it pay off? Who knows? But it'll be fun along the way! :)

The brightest stars burn out the fastest. I remember learning that in Astronomy my freshman year of college. I'm a huge science geek, so it definintely stuck with me. Something about that gases and energy required to keep such a bright level so early in their inception literally burns them out. Personally, I feel like a slow burning star that rises and shines bright for a million years to come. :)

Carlos, you are totally right! This is a really important point that people forget all too often. Being a great blogger takes a lot of time, effort and hard work. You have to put a lot into it to get a lot out of it. Sure, we're all guilty of getting frustrated when things don't happen as quickly as we want them to. But, in the back of our minds, we have to remember that it's a process. As painfully slow as it may be, it will be worth it in the end. Well said, my friend!

So you're telling us not to use the Vanilla Ice method for success?

Score. I still want to listen to Ninja Rap everyday though.

Hi Carlos, I couldn't agree with you more. I'd probably guess a large percentage of bloggers either sell out as you mentioned or just get discouraged because they're views aren't growing exponentially. Really the harder you try to make your blog big time, the higher the likelihood it won't make it, because most other bloggers can see right through your attempts at wooing them. The best way to gain respect is to build genuine relationships with other bloggers, without the hidden motive of getting them to plug you and your blog. If you can do this, a lot of the rest will take care of itself.

Love this post! And I completely agree. How about that? ;)

I recently spoke with a Twitter friend about feeling a bit inadequate as he encouraged me to apply for something that seemed beyond my reach. His advice? You never know until you try, number one. And, number two, he said these people didn't get to be big names by being afraid of the big names. And it's true. They got there not by mimicry , but by being who they are and providing the content, by persistence, patience, over time. And hard work.

I say this time and again ,but, too, often, you only hear about the successes and see where they are now, but you don't really realize what it took to get there. I think if you follow your own way and work hard and have that patience, you could find that kind of success for yourself -- and maybe be happier in the long-run.

Two cents worth. Great post, Carlos!

Years. Plural. Couldn't have said it better myself. Achieving success, whether on or offline, takes time. You have to be willing to put in the time to achieve success, to recieve recognition, to get noticed. We can't all be overnight celebrities - and if you try to rush it, if you 'force' people to listen to us, you're missing the point. Good thoughts as always Carlos. Patience is a virtue.
