OwlSparks’ New Direction

Starting this week, OwlSparks will take a new direction.

- No more daily posts.

- No more brevity just for brevity’s sake.

While it was a good strategy, I think I need to change by now, and here’s why:

- Writing in a concise way was a way to differentiate myself, but also it was my only choice. Starting a blog in another language was not easy, but I’ve been able to do it until now because I went for the minimalist approach, made my content fit my limited vocabulary, and because I asked for the proofreading help of friends like MeghanSam and many others.

- If I want to become a better writer I need to take what I’ve learned with this style and face a new challenge. I’ve gotten better at my English, so I’m ready. I have the ideas and skills to write more complex stuff, so I don’t want OwlSparks, a mere tool, to stop my improvement.

- Someone told me “you’re like Seth Godin!” I don’t care about that.

- Readers will come, readers will go. I can’t please everyone, I need to focus on what I think is the right move.

- The things that I want to talk about now need a deeper analysis. It’s impossible to talk about some of these things in a short post. Also, it’s impossible to write about it in one day. And last, I’m going to focus on encouraging conversation a little more, because I’m going to post many “theories” which will definitely need feedback. If I post daily, I’m killing the conversation before it can snowball.

Basically, I feel that I’m holding back and I need to change that. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy the new direction as well.

Thanks for sticking around, big sparks to come!

If your longer posts are anywhere near as insightful as the shorter ones, we are all in for something special. Keep up the good work, and I am really interested to see the direction you take OwlSparks!

Cool, I love change :)

I won’t think any differently of you regardless of the lengths of your posts. I’ve always loved the level of quality in your daily posts (that’s not an easy feat) so I hope you know that. More length, equals more Carlos writing and thoughts. I’m down! Good luck!

No more daily post?!!? NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! :-(
Just kidding,….maybe, but it’s OK. It’s not like you’re planing to stop blogging or anything crazy like that. At leas there will be more content. :-) Everyone love more of Carlos. I can’t wait.

Carlos, I’ll miss the daily posts but I am also fully aware that daily posting can truly suck some of the power from your writing. It is difficult to tell that you’re not fluent in English from your writing, but I do look forward to more content from you.

Do my eyes deceive me? Longer posts? :)

While I loved the shorter posts and appreciate your ability to be so articulate, I’m really excited for this next venture of yours. You always have so much depth to your thoughts and I’m glad to see some of them expanded upon. I agree with Grace: more length equals more Carlos, more thought.

Rock on, write on!

Can’t believe this is the first time I am commenting here. I’ve been quietly standing by. Though I don’t agree with you all the time (which is awesome) your a great writer. Your posts get me thinking, I’ll give you that. I am looking forward to the new direction, good luck.

Great change Carlos.

I love this blog because it is the only one I know of that really encourages debate and conversation. I am sure the longer posts will only improve the discussion.

Great job improving your English Carlos! You’re great and you already write better blog posts than the majority of us for whom english is a first language :D

I’m sure you’ll do a great job on your new approach! Your short posts show such insight, and it will be great to see your thoughts fleshed out further through longer pieces.

I also enjoy longer pieces as they provide more food for thought, and allow the author to delve deeper into their own opinion. They are more nuanced, while short posts might make blanket statements.

Kudos to you for taking this step. I look forward to reading!

Thanks girl, truly appreciate it, and I agree, sometimes deeper is better.

Genial. Vas a seguir siendo un argentino que escribe en ingles.
Espero que mantengas una regularidad aun que no sea dia a dia.

Good luck!
